YMMV / Star Trek Deep Space Nine S 05 E 25 In The Cards

  • Funny Moments: When Jake quoted Picard's line from First Contact that humans now work to better themselves and the rest of humanity:
Nog: What does that mean, exactly?
Jake: It means... it means we don't need money.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Jake's floundering when he attempts to explain how the Federation's economic system works, and Nog's scornful responses, are very much an Author on Board moment from episode writer Ronald D. Moore, who has made clear his skepticism about some of the utopian aspects of Star Trek over the years. Twenty-five years later, the third season finale of The Orville delivered a detailed and perfectly plausible explanation of how the Federation might work as a non-currency-based economy, which almost seems to have been designed as as a rebuttal to this episode.note
  • Narm: The overly-prepared "lions and tigers and bears, oh my" joke.
