YMMV / Star Ruler

Go To

  • Broken Base: Some players praise the sequel's innovative card-based diplomacy system, but not everyone likes it; some players would rather it was done in a more conventional 4X style.
  • Fridge Brilliance: "Honor" and "Religion" are mutually-exclusive traits. Most religions have a system of honor built-in already.
  • Misaimed "Realism": The game enforces Newtonian motion (no Space Friction), and ships move around realistically, but there is no relativity, so they can easily exceed the speed of light by simply accelerating long enough. Similarly, lasers remain hitscan well past the point where you put enough research into them that their range exceeds one light-second.
  • Slow-Paced Beginning: At the start your industry is poor, your ships are short-legged, slow, weak and don't carry much ammo, early-game rushes are nearly impossible. It's only after some tech buildup that you can start making war in earnest.
