YMMV / South Park S 13 E 13 Dances With Smurfs

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Some wonder if the reason as to why Cartman wanted to be student council president (and why he hurled a lot of slander towards her) is because he wanted revenge after Wendy beat him up back in Season 12.
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • Gordon's murder, which happens because some lunatic confused him for a fortysomething year-old man who slept with his wife. See Harsher in Hindsight below.
    • It's bad enough to hear that Cartman's book constantly libels Wendy as a slut. It's even worse when we hear students read the words aloud. Keep in mind, Wendy is a nine-year-old girl who Cartman claims spends her days on her back or knees.
    • Cartman betraying and killing the apparently real Smurfs just to spite Wendy and make a movie, Horrible. Wearing a Paper-Thin Disguise as Wendy in doing so, Hilarious.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: If there was ever any humor to be gained from the opening scene, it left after the 2012 Connecticut school massacre, in which the sounds of the shooting were broadcast to the entire school after someone activated the office intercom.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Some fans have noted that Cartman's behaviour and crazy conspiracy theories on his show are quite similar to those of Alex Jones of InfoWars, which would appear several years later.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The opening scene, as absurd as it is, is played horrifyingly straight otherwise. Even Cartman looked terrified listening to Gordon's demise.
    • The horrible slaughter of the beloved Smurfs (directly caused by Cartman betraying them to frame Wendy) is this, not even Baby Smurf or Smurfette were spared of the carnage, in fact we actually "see'' Smurfette's head graphically pop as her body gets crushed by Cartman's tractor steamroller.
  • Tearjerker: Again, Gordon's death.
    • The graphic murder of the beloved Smurfs, especially the fan favorite Smurfette as Cartman kills them all with a tractor steamroller and destroys their village. No doubt Gargamel would be ecstatic over their demise.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Cartman being student body president is never brought up again for the rest of the series. PC Principal even mentions in "Tweek x Craig" (which came out a full six seasons later) that Wendy is the student body president, indicating that she was somehow re-elected at some point, another thing that we never got to see.
