YMMV / Sonic the Hedgehog Megamix

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The music for Starry Night Zone by Leila Wilson (who would later go on to compose music for Freedom Planet and its sequel) is an energetic EDM tune that perfectly fits the city's neon and futuristic aesthetic.
  • Common Knowledge: People seem to believe that Megamix is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog CD, since it's on Sega CD and Sonic has the Super Peel-Out. As Stealth explains, the game has always been based on Sonic 1's source code.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Both Sonic Megamix and Sonic Mania Plus have the ability for Mighty to access a super form, with his shell flashing magenta.
    • Digging through the code of Yuu Yuu Hakusho: Sunset Fighters reveals previously unseen sprites of Tails intended for Sonic Crackers (the game widely believed to have been retooled into Knuckles Chaotix). This was after Tails was added into Sonic Megamix and used "Smiling Bomb", the anime's opening theme, as his ending theme.
  • Older Than They Think: Though it is one of the earliest examples, Megamix was not the first Sonic title, official or fan-made, to feature a remixed version of Green Hill Zone at sunset. That honor would go to Sunset Hill Zone in Sonic Advance 3, which released in 2004—one year before the Megamix project started. Take note that Megamix's Sunny Shores Zone was originally named Sunset Hill Zone, with its Act 3 theme even being lifted directly from Sunset Hill Zone Act 2.
