YMMV / Snow Dogs

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Ted's hypothermia-induced dream, which features talking dogs, his mother baking cookies, Barb in a bikini...and Michael Bolton, for whatever reason.
  • Narm: The dogs and their human expressions throughout the film. Especially so as the film was not about talking dogs as the trailers suggested, this only happening in a single dream sequence.
  • Special Effects Failure: Played for Laughs during Ted's nightmare where the wailing baby clearly has Cuba Gooding Jr.'s face on it.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Go on. Try not to cry as Amelia and Barb stare out into the Alaskan wilderness, waiting for Ted to return, as the reporter does a voiceover about the lantern that won't come down until the last racer is safely home....... ouch.
    • Extinguishing the Arctic Flame...
    • The brief argument Ted and Barb have about Lucy "pawning off" her kid. Despite knowing she put him up for adoption, Barb starts chastising him for badmouthing who, to her, was a great friend, but Ted, embittered for never having any contact with her, doesn't back down. This moment shows how some people, no matter how greatly they can be viewed by most people, can still end up in the bad books of a few others, or vice versa.
    • Thunder Jack admitting that he did love Lucy, but how she and him were independent spirits and couldn't ever be together.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: For some, the human-like expressions of the dogs is sure to be creepy.
  • Values Dissonance: Ted taming Demon by biting him on the ear, a move suggested by several of the villagers. For some, this might be seen as straight up animal abuse. Yet it's presented as the only practical means by which to get him to behave — until Thunder Jack admits that everyone was just trolling him. Oddly enough, this method may actually be a reference to another sled dog film by Disney, Iron Will. In that film, the lead character also had problems getting along with the lead dog.
