The series:

  • Cargo Ship: In one episode, Sledge Hammer wakes up in bed and coos, "I had the most wonderful dream. It was about you." He rolls over, and it turns out he's talking to ... his gun.
  • Cult Classic: Three decades after the show was canceled due to low ratings, it still has a loyal following.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Hammer tried to link the Jimmy Hoffa disappearance to Michael Jackson and noted that he was not to be trusted (his reasons being that he wore one glove and walked backwards). Though it has never been suggested Jackson has anything to do with Hoffa, things did happen in Jackson's life which challenged the public's trust of him in the years after the series.
  • Advertisement:
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A group calls for an end to "the Star Wars Program"note  Hammer agrees that three movies were enough. Years later, many Star Wars fans would retroactively agree with him.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Trust me, I know what I'm doing."

The film:

  • Padding: The worst example being them reshowing almost the entire opening during the Ghost Story.
