YMMV / Simon's Cat

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The goldfish in 'Fish Tank' is quite a hit with the fans, being able to outwit the titular cat in question and making it get all the blame in the mess both of them caused at the end in a surprising display of intelligence for a fish.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Russians love Simon's Cat.
  • Heartwarming Moment:
    • The end of 'Hop It', with Simon's Cat sparing the bunny, and getting hugged for it.
    • In Muddy Paws, the Kitten comes into the house, dirty and tracking mud on the ground. Rather than getting angry, Simon's Cat cleans the Kitten like a fussing parent. This is a big contrast from their first meeting, where they were rivals.
    • There's a scene in the comic book where Simon's Cat goes outside to explore the world after dark. In one scene, he's partying and playing music with the other animals rather than chasing or playing pranks on them.
    • Meta. The cat crossover everyone's been waiting for.
    • The ending of the four-part "Missing Cat" series where Simon's cat goes missing. Simon plants several garden gnomes with arrow signs pointing the way home, using his cat's "friendship" with his own gnome. The Cat nuzzles Simon affectionately when they are reunited. The Kitten causes the Cat to faceplant into his welcome home meal, but the Cat doesn't get angry and is just happy to be home.
    • The scene in "Off to the Vet" with the cat and the kitten sleeping together on Simon's lap.
    • The "Teddy's Tale" series shows Simon's cat befriending a stray. At first he only shows the stray how to get free food from the neighbors, but after seeing that the other cat is living out of a flimsy cardboard box tries to find him a home. When the stray "disappears" the cat looks all over for him and is sad when nothing turns up, but is delighted when Teddy shows up and reveals that he's been adopted by one of Simon's neighbors.
  • I Am Not Shazam: Simon is the name of the owner as stated by the title. Not that it stops some viewers from thinking early on that Simon is the name of the cat. Simon had said that Simon's Cat is based off of his own cat, Hugh.
  • Jerkass Woobie: The cat may treat Simon and the kitten badly at times, but he probably doesn't deserve the constant drubbings he gets from the kitten and other animals.
  • Narm Charm: Seen in 'Double Trouble' when the kitten finally gets his paws on the cat's food bowl. The cat tries to get it back, and in response the kitten crouches low, his fur stands on end, he lets out a meow/growl of warning and he gives an angry look. He's obviously trying to be threatening, but he ends up looking adorable and funny instead (which was almost certainly intentional on the animator's part).
