- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: When the senator addresses the audience at the Nixon party and starts doing some kind of Native American chanting (which for some reason is suspiciously close to Serbian by the end). It's treated as one in-universe too.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Johnny Pope, Jill's boss and date at the party, is referred to by Jackie as a hot new director. At the time, Tony Bill, the actor playing him, was best known as an actor and a producer (he co-produced The Sting); since then, Bill has become a director, mostly known for TV work, but also of such films as My Bodyguard, Crazy People, and Untamed Heart.
- Jerkass Woobie: George and Lester both qualify. They both cheat on the women in their life - especially George - but it's also hard not to feel sorry for them by the end, especially George.
- One-Scene Wonder: Carrie Fisher as Lester and Felicia's daughter Lorna in her film debut.
