YMMV / Servants of the Empire

Go To

  • Narm: Merei's confession rant to her parents in "The Secret Academy" is supposed to be a comedic List of Transgressions, though some readers didn't catch on and found it to be a redundant exposition.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Most of these are justified however, as the series takes place from the perspective of relatively ordinary teens, so they don't have the same skill level or importance as the characters in Rebels to have to do with any of them to a large degree. It makes sense that those characters don't get explored here, as the series isn't about them.
    • We're introduced to original Imperial characters that Zare and his friends can interact with on a daily basis due to all except one being everyday officers. However, while characters like Agent Kallus, Minister Tua, the Grand Inquisitor, and Governor Pryce do have cameos, minor roles, or offhand mentions, we don't get to see what's going through their minds during the events of Servants of the Empire and Rebels.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Zare's appearance in Season 1 seemed to have been building up to a future sideplot in the show, but having it be resolved in outside and lesser known material to never be touched on again is jarring to many.
    • Tying in with that, what happened to Dhara, and what exactly is the titular 'Secret Academy'? The Grand Inquisitor tried to make her an Inquisitor, but it failed and as a result, he had her imprisoned in the Imperial Academy on Arkanis (which is just a normal Imperial Academy except for a select group of cadets that are the predecessors to the First Order Stormtroopers) forever until Zare found her. This plotline would actually be continued in Life Debt and Empire's End, but Dhara's Force-sensitivity is actually completely irrelevant to it... maybe. Considering what's going on with Finn, there might be more to the project's results than what seems so far.
