YMMV / Seconds from Disaster

Go To

  • Narm: The show occasionally uses Stock Sound Effects as part of the dramatisations. Unfortunately, the choices of sound effects can sometimes undermine the seriousness of the retelling - Crash Landing at Sioux City has the fireball that streaks through the doomed United Airlines Fight 232 roar like a dragon.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • 9/11: The recording of American Airlines Flight 11 flight attendant Betty Ong's final moments. The operator she's speaking to tries to comfort her when Flight 11 gets more erratic, only to be answered with silence. This is played to mournful music over images of the burning North Tower.
    • From Kobe, the mention of the woman saying they found her son who didn't survive.
    • The person who was insisting that something was wrong in the Puerto Rico shoe store. Unfortunately, he was one of the people who died. But since we never saw him interviewed...
      • From the same episode, Maritza Ramos, a mother of two young daughters (both under 5) was in the store with her daughters when the explosion happened. Knowing she was close to death, she held each of her daughters' hands and told them that they would be okay. She stayed awake and held onto them both until her daughters were found and rescued by a policeman. As soon as she was sure that they were okay and in safe hands, Maritza slipped into unconsciousness and passed away.
    • Collision at 35,000 Feet/Death in Mid-Air not only talks about the Überlingen disaster, but also touches on the air traffic controller, Peter Nilsen, and his revenge-driven murder at the hands of Vitaly Kaloyev, who had lost both his wife and children in the disaster and who blamed him for their deaths.
