YMMV / Sasha and the Frogs

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: Discussed. Unlike Sasha, who has issues with parental neglect, Polly doesn't mind not having parents. She was too young to remember them and thus, lacks the emotional connection most would have. She's cool with it.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • In Chapter 2, when Sasha confessed to Sprig about abandoning him while they were both in the River Monster's stomach. Did Sprig genuinely not believe Sasha's lie or knows that she's lying but ignores her confession because he sees the good buried deep down inside her?
    • In Chapter 15, when Grime mentions he is responsible for the lives of every soldier under his command, is this a case of being A Father to His Men? Or is he using it as a lie to evoke sympathy from Anne? Or a combination of both?
  • Funny Moments: The introduction to season two starts by showing the events of the season two finale, with Anne ruling Newtopia and Sasha once again about to die while Marcy keeps her upright. At which point the scene freezes and present-day Sasha interrupts ala The Emperor's New Groove to apologize for the confusion and promises to explain How We Got Here... which she first does by humorously recapping the entirety of Season 1, before starting the chapter proper.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: A variation. Most of the characters here are given more depths that shows the realistic outcome of the story. Especially for Sasha since she is more likeable, friendlier, and sympathetic enough for the fans who hate her manipulative behavior.
  • The Woobie:
    • Sasha; being flung into an alternate realm and separated from her friends is just the start. Upon meeting the Plantars, the guilt of her toxic and manipulative actions slowly eat up at her until she has an epiphany and vows to make amends for her mistakes. She is even shunned by the people of Wartwood after a scheme to earn more money went wrong and was treated more of a pariah. She makes mistakes and while some are well deserved, the lessons she takes are bitter pills for her to swallow if she wants to make herself a better person and continue the road to atonement.
    • Anne probably got it even worse than her friend Sasha. Unlike Sasha, she landed in Toad Tower, taken prisoner by the Toad troops there and treated like an animal/prisoner at first. By Chapter 15, her optimism and innocence are slowly being destroyed when she and Grime have a discussion about Sasha, and upon catching on to how much of a toxic friend Sasha is, Anne begins to resent Sasha for placing herself, Sasha and Marcy in this predicament. All this occurred on her birthday no less.
