- Crosses the Line Twice: Much of his humor crosses so many lines he's pretty much gone off the map by the time he even gets to the raunchy stuff. The best example is when he was supposed to appear on the Today Show in 1986, which he wasn't looking forward to. As he was getting ready at his hotel, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded on live TV. The producers immediately called his manager and said they had to bump his segment to cover the story. Sam crowed out in his trademark way "I WILLED THIS! NOW EVERYONE BACK TO BED!"
- Harsher in Hindsight: Several moments:
- He did a rant about how people overreacted to drinking and driving. His untimely death was caused by some drunk asshole crashing into his car, and Kinison reportedly had drugs in his system at the time, making his advocacy of drug use darkly ironic.
- The "driving to Barstow" bit on Have You Seen Me Lately eerily echoes the time and place of Kinison's death, in a car crash in the California desert.
- Related to Californian deserts, the 2010s droughts lead many people to compare the state to Kinison's famed "YOU LIVE IN A FUCKING DESERT!" routine.
- In the last moments of his life, he said to nobody in particular, "I don't want to die. I don't want to die." After a short pause, he then asked, "But why?" After another pause, he said, "Okay, okay, okay."
- One-Scene Wonder: As Turguson, the history professor in Back to School. So intense
that Rodney Dangerfield has to enter Berserk Button mode to just stay alive.
