- Foe Yay: Considering he eventually asks her to marry him, it is very safe to assume that Bellmann thinks of Sally in this way.
- Magnificent Bastard: Even though they are extremely competent, most of the villains are slightly too overconfident to qualify. The exception is Bleichroder, who is ostensibly a mere banker, but is single-handedly responsible for all the machinations in "The Tin Princess", and orchestrated all of it for long-term political reasons that have only a slight relation to the main action of the book. The book also implies that his assistance from the shadows might be the reason Otto von Bismarck is historically remembered as such a great real-life Magnificent Bastard.
- Tear Jerker - The Shadow in the North
YMMV / Sally Lockhart
