YMMV / Sabrina (1954)

Go To

  • Broken Base: Viewers are split over whether Humphrey Bogart actually pulled off the relatively atypical role of Linus Larabee.
  • Hollywood Homely: Sabrina at the beginning of the film. She's supposed to be unremarkable, but no effort was made to hide Audrey Hepburn's beauty, aside from having her wear plain clothing. Of course, the film revolves around Sabrina's self-image, and the fact David has always thought of her as Like Brother and Sister.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: It's not something that ruins the whole movie for most people, but the process of Sabrina becoming a sophisticate while staying in Paris occurs almost entirely offscreen.
  • Values Dissonance: Yes, couples who were not romantically inclined did dance that close back in the fifties. To a 21st century eye it looks like Linus is coming on first to Elizabeth and then to Sabrina.
