YMMV.TROPES
Tropes that are considered "YMMV", an English acronym that stands for "Your Mileage May Vary".
These are tropes that may or may not apply depending on the values and judgements of the reader, as well as Audience Reactions.
For example, if Yuito x Johannes appears to be a Fan-Preferred Couple, it would go on this page, not on the main page.

Diamond x 3 received.

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Elke of HARZiNA at the end of Chapter 6, if you are using Chaos mode. Their skill flips the play interface 180 degrees, which will screw over Simple players due to the lanes now being upside-down, but does next to nothing to mess up Chaos players since all they really did is apply a 180-degree mod to the chart that's unlikely to mess up the player unless they've committed the original chart to muscle memory.
  • Awesome Moments: In the sixth chapter, Thor pulls one by being the first character to escape his Judgment, implying that he kicked his slothful ways to the curb in a dose of Character Development. Although in the next chapter, Sloth starts to kick in anyway, manifesting in Thor becoming very exhausted and sick. Still, he gets props for pushing through and escorting Yuito-as-Vulca to a safehouse on the edge of the city before mounting a last stand together with Yuito. He unfortunately gets killed in the end, almost getting to use COLON against the cabal of KUROKAGE members that have shown up, but damn if he didn't go down without a fight.
  • Awesome Music: It's a Rhythm Game, so this trope is mandatory.
    • "Kimi to Mita Yume"note  is the default song in Free Play mode, and features NAOKI's signature pop style coupled with Idol Singers.
    • "Transparent ZERO"note  by cranky, Yuito's theme song, has Risa Yuzuki's vocals paired with cranky's energetic pop sound that carries on his flavor of synth-heavy "rave"-style music.
  • Funny Moments:
    • The developers apparently found it necessary to animate Ria peeking out from behind objects at several points in the story.
    • Entering "ALPACABEAM", "A.14", or "NUM.1000" simply results in a message that reads "Fabulous!!!!" followed by a song unlock.
    • Several of the Easter Egg keywords are the names of alcohol beverages, and you get a brief description of the drink you just typed in. But if you input "BEER", all you get is a stub explaining that the developers are looking for someone who can write the entry because they don't drink it a lot.
    • According to the database entries for the four note types, getting a Fabulous for hitting notes correctly is in-universe, explained by a "magic spell".
    • Throughout Chapter 6, Thor makes it a point that he doesn't want to use his ORGAN, implying that it's a very powerful or top-secret one. When he finally demonstrates it, it turns out that it's named COLON. And it shoots gas bombs, or as he later puts it: he's basically farting at the enemy.
    • The constant bickering between Yuito and Johannes in Chapter 8, almost as if there's Belligerent Sexual Tension at hand. For example, right after giving CORNEA back to Johannes and infiltrating KUROKAGE only to be confronted by some of their members, Yuito keeps saying "CORNEA, alter visual input!" and not using any of the other ORGANs he still has, and Johannes keeps shouting at him for it because 1. he sounds like he's ordering her around and 2. he's calling her CORNEA. Then, when Nire confronts Yuito, Johannes pops back in instead of bailing as planned to aid Yuito because she's tired of Yuito's idiocy.
  • Good Bad Bugs: Chain Notes don't require you to follow the trail perfectly; you are only evaluated for having your fingers be on the orbs when they reach the judgment line (Simple) or when the flashing orb goes over them (Chaos) and as long as that's the case you will get Fabulous on those orbs, even if your fingers are there early.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In July 2020, the song "swallow SMOKE" by Frums was added to the game. The following month, a series of wildfires broke out in Frums's home state of California, resulting in the worst wildfire season in the state's history, with the wildfire smoke spreading to many populated areas causing millions of Californians to indeed "swallow smoke".
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • If you type "CRANKY" into the code terminal, the message that pops up is simply a blurred picture of cranky's alpaca plushie mascot staring right at you with a pretty creepy and elaborate emoji on top. If you were expecting a blurb detailing the artist's career and daily life, it can come off as a Jump Scare.
    • The distorted voices, Nightmare Faces, and creepy holographic inscriptions on whoever is afflicted with a Judgment.
      • Isaac Aoyagi (Wrath) completely loses it and thinks Johannes and Micha are trying to kill Yuito when they were merely acting in self-defense.
      • Maiya Nire (Lust) is more subtle than others, but they proudly boast their intent to rape Johannes.
      • Mirai Katagiri (Envy) is notable in that they start sporting Berserker Tears and they take multiple ORGANs on Yuito's part to kill, unlike the past victims of Judgment.
      • Thor Endomoto (Sloth) seems to avoid his Judgment at first...but come the next chapter, and it starts to kick in; while he doesn't go Ax-Crazy like everyone else, he starts to look really ill and exhausted.
      • An initially-unidentifiable Humanoid Abomination of a giant (Gluttony) goes around eating anyone he finds, and is able to No-Sell several of Yuito's and Johannes's ORGANs. When Yuito manages to use KIDNEY to stop him, he's revealed to be SOAT member Inui, whose obessive food blogging seems have to be the source of his Judgment. Unfortunately at this point the Judgment is irreversible, forcing the duo to deliver a Mercy Kill to prevent him from rampaging again.
    • At the end of Chapter 10, when Yuito realizes that Aurora was an evil Manipulative Bitch all along and tells her he doesn't trust her anymore, there's a close-up of Aurora's eyes...and then they vanish, leaving behind hollow eye sockets.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: The game features an extensive story mode...which people only really play for some unlocks like Challenge Mode, as the story is a Mind Screw that involves random jumps in time, Body Surfing, and a lot of jargon that isn't used correctly, not helped by the English translation being difficult to really decipher.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: The Simple play style is pretty much a gacha-free version of BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!: Seven lanes in a hallway perspective with a psuedo-3D effect and flick notes that look like you have to flick them up but can be flicked in any direction.
  • Tear Jerker: Yuito being forced to kill his girlfriend Mirai in the fifth chapter, due to her being afflicted with Envy and going on a destructive rampage after mistaking Yuito (whose body still exists and is being controlled by an unknown other person) for cheating on her with Sayoko (who's being controlled by Yuito).
  • That One Level: "Torapero" on both Master charts. Yeah, it's an April Fools' Day song, but they introduce a number of gimmicks that have no right being in level 7 charts.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Despite playing a major part in the story and being what appears to be the most popular music group in SEVEN's CODE, with each of the seven members being fully voiced, HALZiNA gets all of one song; their in-universe career is never really elaborated upon. Thankfully, their Alternate Universe counterpart HALZiNA Weisse gets a handful of songs.
