YMMV / Ruby Riott

Go To

  • Badass Decay: Heidi Lovelace was a Champion and main eventer in several promotions. Ruby Riott/Soho is lucky if she wins a match.
  • Fridge Logic: Taryn Terrell defeated Heidi for the OVW Women's Title on the November 15, 2012 (taped November 13) episode of OVW TV, with Taeler Hendrix as the special referee. Taeler setting up this match to cost Heidi the title, with Taeler defeating Taryn 19 days later, means that the whole lesbian angle between Heidi and Taeler in 2013 makes no sense. Why would Heidi be attracted to someone who cost her the title and treated everybody like dirt? To make it even worse, any Alternative Character Interpretation would only make Heidi into an Idiot Ball-carrying Horrible Judge of Character.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Back in her time in IWA-Mid South, Ruby (then Heidi Lovelace) used Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation", the same theme song used by Ronda Rousey, whom she (and the rest of The Riott Squad) finally met and fought in the WWE in 2018.
  • Ho Yay: On Archive of Our Own, she gets Shipped with Liv Morgan, Alexa Bliss, Sarah Logan, Jessamyn Duke and Nikki Cross. Her only Het pairings are with Aleister Black and with Dean Ambrose, and that's only one story each.
  • Memetic Loser: Ruby never has a memorable moment in the WWE. She went through NXT rarely winning a match and ended up leading a jobber squad in the main roster where one member becomes even more popular than she is and she left the company without herself or her team winning any titles. Even in AEW she doesn't fare well either, losing in multiple championship matches, two inaugural titles as well as coming in second place in the Women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament twice.
  • Sweetness Aversion: Taeler Hendrix might have been Heidi's lover, but it was Heidi and Daffney's relationship with Solo Darling that some fans found too sweet for the palate. After a couple shows the two of them did stop being giddy enablers and started trying to actually instruct Solo, to mixed results.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: The Riott Squad being made up of a punk, an ordinary brunette and a pretty blonde led to many suggestions that the group is simply a copy of Paige's team Absolution, with Sarah and Liv being the clones, respectively, of Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: WWE signed her in late-2016 in NXT before quickly calling her up to the main roster a year later to be the leader of a new stable, only to job her and her teammates out nonstop. By the time WWE released her in 2021 in the name of "budget cuts", she'd accomplished basically nothing in her entire 4-and-a-half-year run, not winning a single championship and barely ever even getting a single angle to herselfnote . The Riott Squad never even won the Women's Tag Team Championships, despite being one of the very few actual women's tag teams on the roster!
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: OVW should have run the secret admirer storyline first and have that set up the big feud with Hendrix in 2012.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: The tights she sometimes wears with the left leg covered and the right leg uncovered.
