YMMV / Realistic Pokémon

  • Broken Base:
    • RJ's Gengar line. Comments are split regarding his re-imagining of Gengar, Haunter and Ghastly as bats who merely have a ghostly appearance. Some argue that it was a poor choice, or don't like that he took the supernatural element out in favor of realism as they're supposed to be Ghost Pokemon — while others counter that his re-imagining was creative and clever, and that the reason he took away the supernatural element is because they were supposed to be realistic, as that is the entire point of his aforementioned project Realistic Pokemon.
    • His Dragonite (basically just a giant Axolotl colored orange and with tiny wings) has often been pointed to by detractors as being "uninspired". Some fans find it adorable anyways.
  • Creepy Awesome: this Mewtwo picture has been praised for being a perfect representation of what it'd actually be like to run into the "world's most powerful Pokémon" while you're alone in a dark cave. It's also absolutely terrifying, of course.
  • Funny Moments: RJ adds some humor to several Pokémon entries:
    • "Turtwigs are notoriously sensitive and the playful jaunts of a young Growlithe will make them stupid baby cry."
    • After delving into the Eeveelutions and describing them pretty well, RJ gets to Glaceon and has this tidbit to say: "Glaceon is dumb."
    • After discussing its mythical status at length, he wraps up his entry on Celebi by saying this: "When examined closely, one will see that Celebi is baller as frick."
  • Squick: Mew, who looks more like a fetus than it normally does.
