• Moral Event Horizon:
  • The Gani (crab) tribe (who like to eat people) crossed it a long time ago.
  • Shendu virtually crosses this pretty quickly in his first scene as a dragon, where he burns a slave girl alive after she can no longer dance better.
• Squick: This is the reaction of the other tribes towards the Gani and their "appetites".
• The Woobie: Poor Hishu. First Jade uses his love for her as his maternal figure to manipulate him into helping her failed (and near-fatal) attempt to escape the Fortress, permanently tainting his reputation and that of his tribe by association. Then later on, he manages to nearly rescue her from captivity in Tobe, only to be stopped and sealed by Nonki at the last moment, with his final thought being to sadly reflect on his failure.
