Catharsis Factor: There’s nothing more satisfying than to see Tommy as Pumpkinhead exact his revenge on the same guys who tortured and murdered him when he was a boy in the 50’s. Same goes for when he rips Danny’s head off after he injured and almost burned alive the old blind hermit who took care of Tommy all those years ago. They definitely had it coming.
Nightmare Retardant: Compared to the first film, this Pumpkinhead is a lot harder to find scary as it spends most of its screen time moving around like a Power Rangers monster than a demonic creature from Hell.
One of the more infamous errors comes when Pumpkinhead breaks down the door to kill the judge, and you can clearly see that the actor in the suit is wearing sneakers.
This notable error, however, is only present on the DVD copies, which uses the full frame pan & scan version of the film. The Blu-ray by Scream Factory is presented in widescreen, thus averting the error altogether.
The ending shootout when the townsfolk kill Pumpkinhead has the creature hanging on a hook at one point, and it’s clear that there’s nobody in the suit in some shots because it barely reacts when it’s being shot at. When it does move it’s arms, however, you can see the strings moving them around.
Squick: The implication in Blood Wings that Tommy was the result of Pumpkinhead having... relations with a woman. There are two possibilities for how this happened, both of which are squicky. The first is that Tommy's mother was attracted to Pumpkinhead for some reason and somehow had sex with him. The other is the horrifying implication that Pumpkinhead raped a human woman and Tommy was a Child by Rape.
Tear Jerker: Surprisingly so, even in a silly film like this, it still managed to have at least one surprisingly gut wrenching moment, and that’s the death of Tommy at the beginning of the movie. To put it in perspective, Tommy was a deformed and mentally disabled boy from the 50’s who lived in the woods with a blind hermit, the only person who truly loved him. One day a greaser-style gang see him minding his own business, and they proceed to chase him down to an abandoned mine where the bash his head open, slice him up, and drop him in said mine alive! The reactions from the hermit don’t help either, as she desperately cries out for Tommy, feeling his pain as he’s being tortured by the gang. One can’t help but feel bad for him as this is happening, especially considering how some people have done similar things like this in that same time period.
