- Acceptable Religious Targets: The film is a very heavy handed critique of the Catholic Church's cover-ups of sexual abuse. It was made many, many years before the Church took this issue seriously.
- Harsher in Hindsight: Instead of turning Father Jonas to the authorities, the Catholic church chose to hide him instead, as explained by the line "The church is very forgiving of its own." Sounds familiar.
- Retroactive Recognition: Nicole De Boer, aka Ezri Dax of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Sarah Bannerman of The Dead Zone, is the Final Girl Meagan.
