YMMV / Prez (1973)

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Given the fact Prez and his administration do morally ambiguous things (such as inserting spies into political organizations solely because they have a different political view than the president and Prez's treatment of the Transylvanians), one could view Prez as a Knight Templar Villain Protagonist (or at least an Anti-Hero).
  • Designated Hero:
    • Prez is this issue 4. He builds funds a canal in Moravia. However, the ambassador of Transylvania reveals the canal is draining water from Transylvania. Instead of looking into the matter, Prez just callously ignores the plight of the Transylvanians. Then when the President of Transylvania Dracula tries to get revenge by dropping a plane full of infected bats on the country, Prez tries to have the entire country bombed. Naturally Congress stops him, which is presented as a bad thing, instead of it being presented as Congress stopping an insane war crime.
    • A Blink-and-You-Miss-It example occurs in the third issue. Eagle Free mentions how he sent government agents to infiltrate the Washington Minutemen. However, this is before they do anything illegal. Not helping matters is the fact no one calls him out on this.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • The cultural context of The Prez was based on Nixon-era, which is displayed with a general optimism of then-liberal Boomer generation as the major reformer in American politics, ennui on establishment politics during Watergate Scandal, and ping-pong match with Chinese delegation.
  • Values Dissonance: The ambassador of China is portrayed as a yellowish skinned man who plays ping pong (a national stereotype of Chinese at the time). Also, Eagle Free is rather stereotypical from a modern perspective.
