YMMV / Porter Robinson

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • "Shelter" goes without saying. An EDM dream collab with Madeon that delivers with a melancholy yet heartwarming tune and an absolute gut punch of a music video.
    • "Look At The Sky", an uplifting and hopeful tune that best encapsulates the Porter Robinson’s triumphant struggle to make nurture, especially with its chorus.
  • Critical Dissonance: A slighter example than most for Worlds; while critics generally like it, the typical professional consensus is that it's nothing too special. The casual fanbase, however, is absolutely in love with it.
  • Cult Classic: Despite the Critical Dissonance at play, Worlds is considered by its dedicated fans to be one of the best EDM albums in recent years.
  • Even Better Sequel: Worlds did especially well with fans, but critics were more of the lukewarm side of positive due to Porter's shift from straightforward EDM to his now-signature mix of synth pop and indietronica. Nurture, on the other hand, was far more acclaimed due to its more adventurous sonic atmosphere and Porter's songwriting having become more focused and enthralling.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With French artist Madeon, who not only have the same general demographic, but even have the same, emotional-EDM-style sound. Fans were clamoring for a collaboration between the two, which finally became a reality in 2016 with Shelter.
  • Tear Jerker: Several tracks from Worlds, such as "Sea of Voices," "Sad Machine", or "Goodbye to a World" have gotten famous for how well they manage to be both surprisingly melancholy as well as incredibly catchy.
