- Awesome Music: Lulu's Leitmotif, "Be My Daddy" by Michael Kamin, has a sweet melody and cool 80s instruments befitting the time period. Sadly, it wasn't publically released.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Cuddles is rather popular due to being perhaps the nicest character in the movie, a kindhearted Cloud Cuckoo Lander who is Francine's devoted Only Friend. Many people tend to comment on Youtube clips that they wish they had a friend like Cuddles in their lives.
- Sampled Up: Dialogue from this film is used in the intro of The Avalanches' Frontier Psychiatrist.
- The Woobie: Francine's life is a complete wreck. Her husband's cheating on her, her mother's cruel to her, and her kids are uncontrollable delinquents. The only kindness she's ever shown is by Cuddles and a man her mother hired to steal her money.
