YMMV / Pocket Tanks

  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: A lot of players choose to disable all but the best weapons (a practice known as "stacking"), and start every match by using up as many movement points as they need to put themselves in the corner (since most projectiles instantly disappear if they go out of bounds horizontally, backing up to the edge means that any attack that overshoots you even a little bit will be completely ineffective).
  • Follow the Leader: The game was blatantly inspired by Scorched Earth as the developers at Blitwise will say. However, unlike Scorched Earth the game kept receiving constant weapon packs as Downloadable Content for the better part of 15 years, and it will again whenever the Steam launch occurs.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Funnel + some of the splitting weapons = Hundreds of points.
    • Spinner, Super Nova and Pineapple all give hundreds and in case of Spinner, thousands of points, when the tanks are extremely close to each, just enough to touch each other's body with their turrets.
    • Lava and Liquid Nitrogen are not exactly the Instant-Win Condition that a point-blank Super Nova is, but they can still give you well over 300 points with a good hit, and unlike the above, are much easier to set up, only needing the opponent to be at the bottom of a crater (which any explosive weapon can create) so the particles pool together.
    • While the Torpedo doesn't score as many points as the other Game-Breakers, it stands out due to firing in a straight line and passing through all terrain, making it very hard to mess up. If you get it, you're guaranteed at least an extra 80 points, and likely around 100 due to the water generated by the explosion. It can even be used while buried! As a result, you always have to expect that your opponent might be packing one of these and snatch victory from you at the last second.
