  • Fridge Brilliance
    • The only reason Rudy, Penny and Snap defeated Mr. Cosmo was by working together...so ultimately Bardot forces them to be (and in Snap's case, work) alone to break them. It works...
    • The ways Bardot and Draow target Rudy and Penny when they focus on just one of them target each kid's areas of strength.
      • First having Draow attack Penny shortly after their capture turns Rudy's devotion to those he cares about against him and then is followed up by Draow crushing his right hand, completely cutting him off from his ability to draw. Even after this, the torture frequently targets Rudy's arms.
      • Penny's greatest asset is her intelligence so Bardot goes out of his way to try to break her mentally.
    • You might wonder why Bardot and Draow seem to suffer no ill effects from inflicting injuries on Rudy and Penny that would surely bleed and probably heavily too. However due to its makeup, human blood would actually strengthen the bonds of chalk, adding another disturbing layer to why Bardot mutilates his prisoners so much.
  • Idiot Ball:
    • Bardot wants to break Rudy and Penny...so why did it take him so long to separate them? It's fairly clear that they're drawing strength from each other after Bardot reveals what he did to Penny's father and Rudy comforts her; then it becomes perfectly transparent after Draow crushes Rudy's right hand.
    • According to Word of God, the reason why it takes Bardot so long is because of his red chalk half. While he is an intelligent villain, he sometimes misses the obvious. He has an understanding of how strong friendship is, but, due to him being a hybrid, and thus having half the mind of a feral, vicious zoner, it fails to dawn on him to separate Rudy and Penny until it is suggested by Draow.
    • Another less than intelligent move by Bardot is during his fight with King Mumbo Jumbo. He sticks his paw into the shell to try to slash the king's face. Guess what happens instead.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Bardot goes much further over this line than Cosmo did. One particularly example of how vile he is happens in an earlier chapter when he eats Mr. Sanchez's arm in front of Penny.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The torture scenes with Rudy and Penny are horrific.
    • The most terrifying case is when Snap is being ripped apart by Bardot in the climax.
