YMMV / Phi-Brain: Puzzle of God

Go To

  • Actor Allusion: During Mizerka's fight with Ana, Ana constantly mentions how he's going to give her some Fuwa Fuwa.
    • Tehepero
  • Awesome Music: The first season's opening, Brain Diver by May'n, as well as Quebra Cabeça, the insert theme from episode 2, are both extremely memorable songs that, despite being very different, both capture the show's essence really well while being extremely fun to listen to.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The animals that Ana befriends in episode 8; seen for only one important move and then never mentioned again.
  • Genius Bonus: If you look at the Sudoku/Nam Play Those Two Guys present to Kaito. It become pretty obvious they suck at creating a difficult puzzle.
  • Growing the Beard: Season 2 seems this way. More character development, better art, more interesting plot-line...
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The liberal usage of "POG" throughout the series makes its antagonists harder to take seriously when they share a name with a Twitch emote.
  • Ho Yay: The Anime.
    • Rook and Kaito
    • Cubic also counts, with his possessiveness and obsession with Kaito. He even says he loves Kaito at one point.
      • He keeps track of everything Kaito does in his daily life. As revealed in season 2 when he learns how much Pinochle also knows about him.
    • Gammon and Kaito have some moments too, since both of them are tsundere towards each other and argues alot like an old married couple.
      • In episode 6, Kaito collapsed after solving a puzzle, and then Gammon gave him a piggyback ride. Gammon whispered "Nonoha sweets" at Kaito's ear, waking him up out of shock. Kaito then apologized to Gammon and says that he's grateful for Gammon, whom Kaito had believed that he had knock Kaito back to his senses after a Heroic BSoD while blushing. Gammon blushed too, denying it with embarrassment then drops Kaito on the ground. Then both of them argued again, causing Nonoha to observe that both of them are really getting along to each other, leading to Kaito and Gammon angrily deny it.
      • In episode 14, Kaito is injured and hospitalized. When he woke up, Kaito leaved his bed, attempting to search for Rook, but was stopped by Gammon. Gammon carried Kaito again to his bed but this time not a piggyback ride, it's the infamous type of carry that can fuel up a yaoi fandom rapidly instead.
    • Annnnnnnnnnddddd.... another Bridal Carry, this time between Freecell and Kaito, the former carrying the unconscious latter. Could also count as Pietà Plagiarism.
    • Don't forget Kaito and Ana in episode 4 too, as he gave Kaito a kiss at the cheek at the end of it.
      • Episode 8. Kaito and Ana in a hotspring, both of them are naked. Ana touches Kaito's skin, remarking that Kaito's skin is beautiful, while Kaito freaking out, screaming and blushing as if he's being violated.
      • Oh my God, this picture. It is a weekly doodle tweeted by the official Phi Brain account, drawn by the character designer Yohei Sasaki, featuring Ana and Kaito looking at each others' eyes, blushing, also Ana is wrapping his arms around Kaito's neck while crying.
    • And Kaidou Baron with Jin.
    • In the second season we have the new villain, Freecell whose obsession with Kaito rivals Rook's.
    • A rare example of Ho Yay not involving Kaito: Pinochle cares a lot about Freecell, to the point where he's willing to risk his life to kill Kaito for hurting Freecell. Too bad Freecell doesn't appreciate him whatsoever.
    • Pinochle and Freecell is similar to Bishop's devotion to Rook, which is most evident when the normally cool Bishop attacks Kaito after Rook "dies" when Kaito failed to save him.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Kaito, since that almost everyone in the series is obsessed witn him, and he's kinda pair-able with anyone.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Nonoha letting her hair down in the opening of the second season.
