YMMV / Peeking Through the Fourth Wall

Go To

  • Alternative Joke Interpretation:
    • In Episode 31, Luna says that she once wore a lampshade on her head for Halloween, only for her friends to claim not to recognise her. This was meant as a reference to the meme of replacing Luna with a lamp, yet it could also be interpreted as them claiming she got drunk all the time (albeit falsely, since she was confirmed not to drink in After Dark: 4.)
    • In Episode 17, when Lincoln in the story is picked up by three Original Characters who call him heavy, one of the men reading the story claims that most of the weight would be in his head. Is he joking about how Lincoln is drawn with a large head, or is he saying that Lincoln is so Wangsty in this fanfic, his angst is weighing down his brain?
    • In Episode 33, Lana mentions knowing a frog named Jeremiah. Someone in the comments mistook this for a nationalist joke about Frenchmen, but it was actually a reference to a song which had "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" as a lyric.
    • In Episode 38, when Linka in the story owns a box marked, "In case the chocolate monster is about to come out", and the real (alternate) Louds wonder what the box was meant to contain. Lane jokingly suggests Pepto-Bismol — is he referring to poop as a "chocolate monster", or is he suggesting that if Linka went insane and ate too much chocolate, she'd get indigestion?
    • Also in Episode 38, the story has Linka ask Lane if he added love to his pies, causing him to blush. The real siblings seem awkward at this — is this a reference to American Pie, in which a boy masturbates with a pie, or did they think Lane blushing at Linka's compliment seemed too romantic for siblings?
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Sam meowing at Cliff in "Tongue Tied". There was no way of telling that she was gonna go meow at the cat, it has absolutely no place in a love story, and she had no reason to.
  • Broken Base: Luna getting turned on by the story in After Dark 2. Some people see it as hilarious Vulgar Humour that ties in with her bisexuality, while others are skeeved out by it seeing as one of the characters in the story was her own sister.
  • Crack Pairing:
    • Discussed when Hugh/Jabba is mentioned in Episode 17 ("Luck").
    • Discussed again in After Dark: 6, when the older Loud sisters (except Lori) note that the author of Tryst of Fate and New Jersey ships unlikely couples together (Lori and Carol, then Lynn and Clyde).
    • "The Edgy House" has Rita/Mr. Grouse, Rita/Flip, and Rita/Dr. Feinstein.
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • When Lynn in "The Sleeping Boy" suggests playing sports, the real Louds say, "That's Your Answer to Everything". Lynn agrees and finds excuses to play sports in situations suggested by her family. When Lucy suggests a funeral, Lynn suggests casket surfing.
    • In Episode 27, the story (A Town Hates a Boy) involves things such as Lincoln only saying, "Very strange" in response to a man being killed in front of him, and Lynn surviving drinking rat poison.
    • Luan's "pussy" joke in response to Leni turning into a horny, incestuous cat in "Property of Luan Loud".
  • Crossover Ship: Discussed when Hugh/Jabba is mentioned in Episode 17 ("Luck").
  • Less Disturbing in Context: The episode covering "All's Fair in Pranks and War" has Lynn blushing after Lisa notes that she googled, "puppy play". Lynn was actually interested in the nonsexual version of puppy play, and only found it embarrassing due to the whole puppy aspect clashing with her toughness.
  • Shocking Moments: In the one about "Model Brother", Leni imagines running over the bullies with a steamroller.
  • Squick:
    • The fact that Lori, Luan, and Luna snicker when Lincoln asks Luna "got the cream out of [her] hair", considering Lincoln and Luna are siblings.
    • Lana eats a BLT that had been under her hat for two weeks.
    • Luna says that if she had a long tongue, she'd do something that started with pinning Sam to the table...
    • Lucy drinking Lisa's nosebleed blood.
    • Apparently, Izzy peed on Lola's bedsheets at one point.
    • In "The Edgy House", Lincoln gets tricked into eating cookies baked by the twins that had Lana's shit mixed into the batter. To be fair, he deserved it in the context of the story.
    • Episodes 2 and 6 of After Dark have Luna "enjoying" the story, despite the fact that it stars her own sister!
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Enforced in After Dark Episode IV: "The Edgy House", where the sisters and Chaz eventually get too bored of the titular edginess to even care.
  • The Woobie: Luan falls into this during the third "After Dark" episode, where she is forced to sit through a story about her being a horrible person, to point of nearly crying.
Luan: (squirming on the couch, on the verge of tears) I- I don't like this.
Luan (after Leni says, 'Let's finish the story') Do we have to?
