- Harsher in Hindsight: The second book, Phineas Finn, contains a character named Robert Kennedy, a politician who eerily becomes the target of an assassination attempt at one point.
- Narm: The early episodes of the 1970s series are set partly in Switzerland. Special Effects Failure strikes in the most accidentally hilarious way when the characters look out at the mountains... which are so blatantly a painting. It looks less like they're in Switzerland and more like they're wandering around an art gallery.
