YMMV / One Piece – Reverie Arc

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Admit it, seeing Charlos get his head bashed in for trying to make Shirahoshi a slave is one of the most satisfying moments of the series. Especially since it comes at the hands of Myosgard who proves by doing so that it is possible for even the Celestial Dragons to grow as people and validates Otohime's dream of peace.
    • The Vinsmokes losing their royal privileges after news of their attempted alliance with Big Mom gets spread. It's rather satisfying to learn that Vinsmoke Judge's dreams got crushed completely, especially since his crimes included using his own family as weapons, treating his clone armies like meat shields, emotionally abusing Sanji and letting his other modified sons beat him up, and pulling Sanji through the ringer with blackmail years later, all just to get back some land that his family lost.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Everybody who predicted Ryokugyu would debut at the Reverie because it makes sense for an Admiral, one of the most powerful fighters in the whole of the Marines, bracketing their top echelon, to be protecting the most important clientelle to the World Government, the organization overseeing the Marines at their most vulnerable state (among other countries with risk of being attacked).
    • The person who turns into a mass of crows is actually among the leaders of the Revolutionaries. This was suspected right from the get-go when Karasu first appeared to whisk Sabo out of Dressrosa.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • Luffy hitting 1.5 billion berries and now being considered a potential Emperor.
    • The secret treasure that Doflamingo was able to blackmail the World Nobles over is revealed and is shown to be... a larger version of Luffy's straw hat!
    • Shanks showing up to talk to the Elder Stars.
    • The introduction of Imu, a character inferred to be the Greater-Scope Villain to the entire series. This combined with the Elder Stars deciding on a Final Solution and various other visual cues indicates things are not going be pretty in the future.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Moda the milkmaid from Ace's cover story arc making a small cameo reappearance was very unexpected especially for this particular arc as she was a very minor character that only the most astute longtime fans of the series would recognize right away without being told.
    • People were surprised that Sai actually appeared at the Reverie since the Ruler of Kano stated Sai and the Happo Navy won't make it back in time for the Reverie after they left Dressrosa, and there was also a cover story of Sai and Baby 5's wedding at Kano. Naturally, people took his word for it since they doubted that Sai and the Happo Navy could make it to the Reverie in time.
    • Of all the people to make another appearance, very, very few guessed we'd ever see Saint Myosgard again. Let alone that he'd make a Heel–Face Turn! Oh yeah and he's a Donquixote to boot.
    • The sudden return of Jewelery Bonney, last seen in a montage at the Dressossa arc, caught many fans off guard.
    • Nobody seemed to figure this arc would be where Bartholomew Kuma reappeared, most believing be would turn up at Vegapunk's lab to be repaired and upgraded. For him to return as a slave with swords stabbed into him and on all fours as a transport for the Celestial Dragons... such a sorrowful state is a heartbreaking sight.
