  • Ass Pull: The last reveal in the game, Christina manipulating the machine seeking to meet with her mother, comes out of nowhere without any foreshadowing.
  • Awesome Music: The music is surprisingly good, especially "Tragedy", the "sad" Mood Motif. The full soundtrack can be listened to here.
  • Better as a Let's Play: Because the game is full of surprises and twists, it's rather enjoyable to watch someone play it blind and get shocked/flabbergasted by the plot.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: The gameplay of the game is incredibly barebones, and nearly every puzzle in the game has a solution that should be obvious in seconds. If you're playing, you're playing for the emotional rollercoaster of watching what happens to the main characters and hoping to find them a happy ending.
  • Moment of Awesome: "Calculations complete. Fire on floor B3. No casualties expected." The music kicks in at just the right time, too.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Christina's Wham Line in her ending and the music that kicks in right as she says it.
    • Being one of two choices to be a casualty.
  • Player Punch: Every time you are forced to kill somebody.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Virtue's Last Reward, the second Zero Escape game. Both games involve Mental Time Travel where when you go to a new timeline, you replace the "previous" you of that timeline; a flow-chart and character endings, including bad endings; an Omega Ending that's reached after clearing every other good ending; and even the cover of the OST for no-one has to die, looks very much like a shot from VLR's Opening Cutscene, (a type of shot that shows up in many games by the same developer).
  • Tear Jerker: Oh, you will want to make sure everyone lives, especially after the survivors of each floor discuss the person you indirectly murder and grieve them.
  • The Woobie: Troy. He's set-up as the Big Bad arsonist from the getgo but once you find out he's lying, and why he's lying, you'll feel pity for him.
