- Awesome Art: A lot of the illustrations fall into this. Obviously, you've got Bogleech's own Ugly Cute style, but most of the guest artist submissions don't look half-bad either, from Biomechanicalmush's cartoony drawings that resemble something from The Golden Age of Animation, to Revereche's nightmarishly surreal Stephen Gammell-esque artwork.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Mr. Oogle from Squid's dream◊ is one of the most popular monsters, being illustrated no◊ less◊ than◊ four◊ times by different people.
- Heartwarming Moments:
- Unusually for a series with the word "nightmare" in its title, Daisydice's werewolf dream◊ ends on a surprisingly sweet note, with a woman helping a sickly young boy off the street, and then giving him a Cooldown Hug after he turns into a (very strange) werewolf and deciding to adopt him permanently.
- Squid's Worm Man dream◊. Far from turning out to be a horrifying monster like Mr. Oogle did, Worm Man turned out to be a genuinely Nice Guy who Squid even became friends with, his Body Horror qualities being dismissed as a simple skin condition, which Squid's parents urged them not to draw attention to since Worm Man was apparently a little self-conscious about it
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Bogleech's human-faced giraffe bears a notable resemblance to Durpleton.
- Narm Charm: Many dreams feature concepts that should be nonsensical, but still end up being terrifying anyway, such as the woman with a prehensile extendable nose.
- Nightmare Fuel: Given that they originated from literal nightmares, it's to be expected a lot of them are quite disturbing.
- The illustrations, depending on the artist, vary from Ugly Cute to outright nightmarish. The ones by Bogleech's wife, which look almost like something out of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, fall directly into the latter category.
- Ugly Cute:
- Bogleech finds Bobipineman's drawing◊ of Tithe, banker of death, to be surprisingly adorable, despite being described as a “hideous half-bird, half-bat monster”.
- He also feels this way about Wheezy, a strange and dangerous, but still adorable, coughing lightbulb-shaped creature that appears in an in-dream Looney Tunes cartoon.
- Some also feel this way about the Underwater Reaper◊, no doubt due to octopi being Ugly Cute in real life.
- The Woobie: Poor Worm Man. He's just an exchange student with a skin condition he's really sensitive about!
