YMMV / My Brother and Me

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Goo, given he got the funniest lines and is the most memorable person on the show.
  • Memetic Mutation:
  • Out of the Ghetto: This show managed to do this with the Minority Show Ghetto, as any kid who grew up in the '90s, regardless of race, remembers this show fondly despite it being a Short-Runner.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Amanda Seales as Deonne.
    • Kym Whitley as Mrs. Pinckney.
    • Vanessa Baden as Janey.
    • Kenny King appears in "Dee Dee's Haircut".
  • Tear Jerker: In "Dee Dee's Haircut", after Dee Dee's disastrous homemade haircut, and his dad has to take him to get it all shaved off just to fix it, he screams at him, "I hate you, Daddy! I hate you!", leaving Roger genuinely hurt by his comment. He later apologizes to his dad, but still.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • Anyone can see that this show is a loving product of the mid 1990s, right down to the fact that Michael Jordan plays minor league baseball.note
    • In "Hit the Open Man", Alfie and Goo imagine that they’re sports stars endorsing their own brands of energy drinks and shoes. Sports stars endorsing such products became far less common around the Turn of the Millennium.
    • Cool Dr. Money, a rapper Dee Dee and his friends are fans of, has his name carved in the back of his head. In the early '90s, there was a very short-lived fad among rappers to carve artwork in the back of their heads, most notably Kid 'N Play.
  • The Woobie:
    • Dee Dee is this more often than not given the fact that he's bullied by his older siblings, their friends, and even his own friends.
    • Alfie is this in "The Basketball Tryouts", being genuinely sad about being cut from the basketball team. On the other hand, the coach actually has a pretty valid reason for cutting him.note
