YMMV / Mrs Henderson Presents

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • The revue's performance of "Goody Goody" is suitably spectacular, with great choreography and makes one wish the film had been a full blown musical.
    • The full version of "Girl in the Little Green Hat", performed over the credits by Will Young.
  • Funny Moments:
    • The entirety of Mrs Henderson trying to haggle the Lord Chamberlain into letting the nudity happen. He dances around with euphemisms for the groin ("midlands" was apparently added in because John Gielgud said it) and Mrs Henderson cops on and says "you mean the pussy?" - and when she assures him they have a barber, the poor man spills half his tea.
    • To get the girls comfortable with appearing nude, Bertie convinces the males to strip naked too. The girls call for Van Damme to do so. Cue Mrs Henderson walking in when he's starkers and remarking "you are Jewish."
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The government orders the theatre to close because it's causing people to "over congregate" and is deemed unsafe. Extremely sad in light of the COVID-19 pandemic forcing theatres to close and the nationwide outrage in the industry when pubs and schools were allowed to reopen and theatres weren't (and Britain having to go back into lockdown shortly after).
  • He Really Can Act: Pop star Will Young got great reviews for his charismatic turn as Bertie, showing lots of flair and comic timing.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Natalia Tena starring alongside Toby Jones (though they don't interact) makes it amusing to Harry Potter fans; Dobby is trying to prevent Tonks from performing nude.
  • It's Not Supposed to Win Oscars: Roger Ebert's review even stated that the film was "not great cinema, and neither was the Windmill great theatre, but they both put on a good show."
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: A rather odd sequence in the second act has Mrs Henderson discovering Van Damme is married, swearing never to set foot in the theatre again, and then finding creative ways to sneak in. It has no bearing on the overall plot and almost seems to serve as Padding.
