YMMV / Motor Toon Grand Prix

  • Awesome Art: Susumu Matsushita's art style really emphasizes the "toon" aspect, and it looks quite nice for a 1996 PlayStation game.
  • Awesome Music:
    • Toon Village, especially at the two-minute mark.
    • In a similar vein to Sonic CD, Crazy Coaster has different songs for the US and Japanese versions of the game. Both are fantastic in their own right.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: Chances are, any high level gameplay on YouTube will be with Raptor & Raptor, as while they aren't the fastest or easiest handling characters in the game, they don't suffer from losing speed when driving off-course (their machine is a spaceship), letting them take numerous shortcuts.
    • When it isn’t Raptor & Raptor, then it is often Princess Jean who also isn’t fast but makes up for it with fantastic handling that allows her to easily outmaneuver other racers and make otherwise nightmarish turns with ease.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Vanity is the only character to lack a Sentient Vehicle companion. Given her ego, she obviously wouldn't want to share the spotlight with anyone.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: One of the major complaints of the first game. All the content the game has to offer can easily be done in thirty minutes or less!
  • Sequel Displacement: Because the first game was never released overseas, the second game is more widely recognized. The fact that the second game is often considered superior to those who have played both furthers this point. In addition, in North America, the 2 was dropped from the game's title.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: The first game had many interesting ideas, but it never realized its full potential due to minimal content and a flawed physics engine. Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 addressed all of these and is seen as one of the PlayStation's best kart racers.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The sequel has great graphics already, but the bonus games run at 60 frames per second, something quite rare for the PlayStation.
