YMMV / Momotaro's Divine Sea Warriors

Go To

  • Designated Hero: The villains are the British Empire, who are shown as bad for taking over the pacific islands. The "heroes" are the Japanese Empire, who are trying to do the exact same thing.
  • One-Scene Wonder: There's a sequence where Bluto and Popeye surrender to the Japanese, and Popeye dropping his spinach jar. This sequence was missing in the re-releases, until it was reinstated in the 2K restoration.
  • Values Dissonance: Is basically the anime equivalent of The Birth of a Nation (1915) for revolutionizing the medium, but also preserving a disturbing part of history.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: Because of his political views, Mitsuyo Seo focused on trying to give dreams to children, as well as to instill the hope for peace with the film instead of making it full-blown propaganda. If he succeeded or not depends heavily in the viewer.
