  • Quill watched his mother get killed right in front of him, killed the murderer in a fit of rage, and has been on the run from royal guards for who knows how long before meeting Filter.
  • Filter's father disappeared before he was born, was bullied his whole life, lost his sight and only friend because of Discord's reign, and his mother was implied to be near death by the time he met Quill. Then his father returned after he met Quill, killed Filter's mother, and then himself.
    • It's heavily implied that Filter was more open and carefree before these events started happening; he's rather snarky when he first meets Quill, despite not knowing him prior, rather than acting like a Shrinking Violet like he does for anypony else he meets now.
