YMMV / Miraculous Ladybug S 03 E 22 Cat Blanc

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Was Chat Blanc fighting from the inside, dropping hints and going easy on Ladybug until she could figure out where his Akuma was? Bear in mind, the fight basically ended with him tapping the object in question and more or less standing there while Ladybug took it.
    • Did Nathalie reveal Chat’s identity as a betrayal, or was she hoping it would cause Gabriel to have a Heel Realization? Note that Mayura wasn't present to help Hawk Moth when Ladybug and Cat Noir confronted him, at least implying Nathalie knows Gabriel took his obsession too far for her to stay by his side.

  • Author's Saving Throw: A number of viewers were getting tired of how the show is constantly dragging out the Love Square. "Cat Blanc" gives us a good reason to wait: we're presented with a Bad Future that started when Marinette and Adrien revealed their identities to each other and hooked up, explaining that it would be a very risky move to make as long as Hawk Moth's (or at the very least, Gabriel Agreste as Hawk Moth) still at large.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ladybug told Adrien she came to bring a present from his brazilian fans, because their post office is on strike. Hilariously, by the episode's air date, the brazilian post office was in fact on strike.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Previously, Gabriel had shown concern for Adrien's safety, between being frozen by Style Queen, potentially being dropped by Gorizilla etc. He crosses the line twice in the Bad Future for the sake of his overall goal: first he blackmails Marinette into breaking up with Adrien in order to akumatize her, not even caring about the fact he is breaking his son's heart in the process; then after Adrien saves her by transforming in front of her to Cataclysm the akuma, he plots to akumatize him without any sense of remorse, even taunting him with his mother to make him so conflicted he becomes vulnerable to akumatization. It makes any possibility of redemption moot at this point.
    • Subverted in the end when these events are undone. Fortunately the present Hawk Moth has not sunk so low yet.
  • Shocking Moments: The apocalypse, They Do, Bunnyx returning, Hawk Moth revealing his true self...even though all those events were reset, many fans questioned why this episode wasn't the finale. It certainly had more dramatic torque than any episode in seasons 1 and 2.
