Tropes:

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Was Cat Blanc fighting from the inside, dropping hints and going easy on Ladybug until she could figure out where his Akuma was? Bear in mind, the fight basically ended with him tapping the object in question and more or less standing there while Ladybug took it.
      • The moment when he sheds a Single Tear is somewhat ambiguous due to his unpredictable mood swings. Did his tears really mean that he pleads to be saved and realized how screwed up he is, or it's a trick by taking advantage of Ladybug's kindness to take her Miraculous?
    • Did Nathalie reveal Cat’s identity as a betrayal, or was she hoping it would cause Gabriel to have a Heel Realization? While Mayura wasn't present to help Hawk Moth when Ladybug and Cat Noir confronted him, even that is inconclusive — did she decide Gabriel took his obsession too far for her to stay by his side, or had the Peacock Miraculous damaged her enough that she simply couldn't accompany him?
  • Catharsis Factor: After three seasons of non-stop will they/won't they drama between Marinette and Adrien, this episode at least provides a reprieve from it by allowing the two of them to be an Official Couple before reseting everything.
  • Creepy Awesome: Cat Blanc, thanks to his terrifying mood swings and infinite power of destruction, which make him very popular among the Akumatized villains.
  • Evil Is Cool: Cat Blanc is basically an evil Palette Swap version of Cat Noir, yet compared to his normal self, most of his expressions are genuinely unsettling and fall into Nightmare Face category. This is one of the reasons why some fans think that he is cooler than Cat Noir.
  • Fan Nickname: Fans like referring to Cat Blanc as "Psycho Cat", "Psycho Kitty", or "Yandere Cat", due to his behavior.
  • He Really Can Act: Bryce Papenbrook's performance in this episode has been praised by many for being able to portray the deeply twisted psyche of an akumatized Cat Noir. His ability to shift Cat Blanc's demeanor from soft-spoken and pleasant to deranged and unhinged is absolutely chilling.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ladybug told Adrien she came to bring a present from his Brazilian fans, because their post office is on strike. Hilariously, by the episode's air date, the Brazilian post office was in fact on strike.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Previously, Gabriel had shown concern for Adrien's safety, between being frozen by Style Queen, potentially being dropped by Gorizilla etc. He crosses the line twice in the Bad Future for the sake of his overall goal: first he blackmails Marinette into breaking up with Adrien in order to akumatize her, not even caring about the fact he is breaking his son's heart in the process; then after Adrien saves her by transforming in front of her to Cataclysm the akuma, he plots to akumatize him without any sense of remorse, even taunting him with his mother to make him so conflicted he becomes vulnerable to akumatization. Even if the events of the episode were ultimately undone, it handily demonstrates that Hawk Moth is perfectly willing to ignore his few previously-demonstrated morals in pursuit of his goals.
  • Shocking Moments: The apocalypse, a Relationship Upgrade, Bunnyx returning, Hawk Moth revealing his true self... even though all those events were reset, many fans questioned why this episode wasn't the finale. It certainly had more dramatic torque than any episode in seasons 1 and 2.
