YMMV / Men

Go To

  • Adorkable: Geoffrey, with his insistence on being helpful and his awkward, self-effacing demeanor, counts as this. At first.
  • Anvilicious: The patriarchy exists and is enforced both by powerful institutions (the police, organized religion, etc.), and by the average man. A common criticism of the movie is that, while it's about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face, it doesn't really say more than this or add a new perspective to the conversation.
  • Critical Dissonance: On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds a decent but lukewarm 69% with critics. The audience? 39%.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Moviegoers pretending to be confused by the title and ending up in the men's bathroom.
    • The infamous birthing sequence was memed to be reminiscent of the Schwarzenegger baby from Junior.
  • Narm:
    • While the movie itself can be genuinely scary, the sheer bluntness of its title can also be unintentionally funny. Some viewers reported laughter in their theaters when the title showed up at the end of the film's trailer.
    • The movie's logo bears a striking resemblance to the logo of men.com — a gay porn website.
    • The young boy with Rory Kinnear's face is either this or Narm Charm depending on the audience. While it's certainly a chilling image, it's not a very convincing effect.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The scene where multiple men give birth to each other features some truly horrific body horror that will be burned into your brain.
  • Signature Scene:
    • Pre-release, Harper standing outside the tunnel, echoing single notes before someone appears on the other end.
    • The birthing sequence quickly became this on platforms like TikTok and Twitter after release due to how shocking it is.
  • Squick: Several examples:
    • The camera zooms into the empty eye socket of a dead deer, only to zoom back out to its rotten corpse hours later.
    • The last five minutes, which are difficult to describe but utterly nauseating. It involves several full-grown men giving birth to other full-grown men, a process which leaves them completely mutilated.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The third act of this film is absolutely traumatic, to the point where whatever statement the film is trying to make can be overshadowed by the horrendous imagery for some. Even Harper becomes visibly numb to the constant barrage of terror.
