YMMV / Mega Man: Defender of the Human Race

  • Awesome Music: Music in a fanfiction? Well, sort of. The author suggests playing Wily Castle 1 from Mega Man 2 during Rock's first raid on Skull Castle.
    • This happened again with Proto Man whistling his theme to Nomad.
  • Growing the Beard: While the first two episodes are good, the story really hits its stride with Episode 3, exploring more emotional territory and providing its own spin on several episodes. Episodes 4 and on continues this by starting to tie the subplots together and introducing new takes on elements from the game.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Has its own page.

  • Moment of Awesome: Has its own page.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Dr. Wily crosses this and keeps on running when he attempts to murder his former partner by blowing him up with a bomb and kidnapping his children despite his protests.
      • In-universe, Proto Man thinks that Wily using a program to directly inflict pain is crossing the line.
    • The Stardroids crossed it in a flashback by destroying a planet in front of Duo, stalling him long enough to make him watch.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Has its own page.
  • Seasonal Rot: Discussed. Ending the fic after eighteen episodes was an attempt by the author to defy this trope and end the story while he still felt it was good.
  • Squick: In Episode 11 Wily remarks that people in pain and terror turn him on. Lampshaded by ProtoMan.
  • Tear Jerker: It has its own page.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: Some of the early subplots, like Lyn's problems with her brother and VicTech's efforts to get into the robot hero market, have this air early on, due to how disconnected they are to the main plot. But starting with Chapter 4, the subplots become more directly affiliated with Mega Man and have a significant effect on his adventures, subverting this trope.

  • Unexpected Character: Few people expected the Mega Crew leader to be Tiesel Bonne from the Mega Man Legends series, and nobody expected the Conduit to be Lex Loath III and working with Glyde.
  • What an Idiot!: Desperate for a robot hero, Markus Vickers accepts a offer to have one built without any background check and forks over $200 million for it. If he hadn't let his anger and greed cloud his judgment, there would be no Bass and Dr. Wily might very well have surrendered from lack of funds.
  • The Woobie: Mega Man, Roll, and ProtoMan all have moments of this at times.
    • Lynn and Castor as well.
    • Peekaboo the Met, whose timid personality came about due to torture at the hands of Wily.
    • Nomad is activated by mistake, feels pain almost immediately upon waking, is unable to speak, overhears Wily talking about wiping her memory, and doesn't get a name before running off.

How well does it match the trope?
