YMMV / Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters

Go To

  • Even Better Sequel: The new mechanics and plot developments led to this game being considered the better of the two arcade titles.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Bass, upon first seeing Zero, one of the things he does is compare him to a girl. Years later, Zero would end up literally a girl.
  • It Was His Sled: There's one real reason why any Mega Man fans know about this game besides it being an unlockable in the Anniversary Collection, and it's the Zero cameo and plot hook for the Mega Man X series.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The assist characters waver around this; even if you chose a character with a useful helper (Proto Man/Duo), you're forced to use them once Eddie shows up and get no option to switch to another weapon (since their time limit acts as a weapon in of itself)...which, of course, prevents you from using the boss's weakness for some time. If you're playing as Mega Man in particular, prepare for a rough time since Rush is just an attacking assist and Mega Man gets no protection whatsoever, resulting in a Power Up Letdown.
  • Sequel Difficulty Drop: Downplayed — while the first game's irritating roulette-like stage select is replaced with a more traditional one, and there are a number of additions that help the player (including the Assist Characters and hints to each Robot Master's weakness), it's still roughly as difficult as the first game.
