- Fair for Its Day: The story exploits the then-popular stereotype of blacks as cannibals, although Howard clearly tried to ameliorate it by also showing both non-villainous blacks (Zabibi's black servant) and white villains (Aram Baksh), also making clear that the cannibalism is cultic in nature.
