YMMV / Magical Girl Ore

Go To

  • Bizarro Episode: Episode 5 abruptly switches tones from the Affectionate Parody of the magical girl genre to an anime production spoof featuring the Fujimotos fighting against a Godzilla-esque monster and Obstructive Bureaucrats to get the episode of the show released on time. The main characters only appear for brief seconds, all in Stylistic Suck segments and at the episode's climax, where they show up out of nowhere to defeat the monster.
  • Epileptic Trees: Crunchyroll's interpretation of the series posits that it's a spoof of Dark Magical Girl stories: the enemies are hulking brutes, the goal is "shoot to kill" instead of subdue, the weapons are deadly, the mascot explicitly uses gangster tactics to recruit his next client, and there are elements of Forced Transformation in the girls' transformations to the point that their transformed bodies are nothing like the originals— except it's all played for laughs.
    • Anime original characters Michiru and Rika were often speculated to be boys who can transform into cute idols or Magical Girls themselves.
  • Fan Nickname: Macho Shoujo.
  • Ho Yay: There's a lot of it, due to the nature of the series. Even Saki's mother gets into this, since she and her husband fell in love with each other while she was still in her magical girl form.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The end cards. Contrast to the rest of the show, they're carefully and eerily painted to make the mooks in the show look terrifying. The bleak lighting doesn't help one bit. Exactly one of them is in any way positive, and it's the final end card showing Saki and the group celebrating their idolhood.
