Little House On The Prairie S 8 E 1 The Reincarnation Of Nellie

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: In the final scene, when Nancy says she loves Harriet, was she being genuine or was she just trying to get back in her mother's good graces? Or was she admitting, deep down that her love for her adoptive mother was genuine while at the same time trying to get in her good graces too?
  • Fridge Horror:
    • Willie reveals that being stuck inside the ice house for too long can seriously endanger someone's health, or even life. Belinda stayed there overnight, and got seriously ill from that, to the point that her parents were concerned for her life. Now, remember when in previous seasons, two suspects were locked in the ice house, with no apparent attire to help them through the cold, and both were no spring chickens. It can't be a pleasant experience at all to be accused of a crime and await trial in Walnut Grove.
    • The blacksmith shop still has the nme of Irv Hartwig, years after he was killed and revealed to be a maniac rapist (see below). Assuming this isn't a gross continuity error, then the blacksmith shop remained untouched and abandoned, with the name of a rapist and murderer (he indirectly caused Sylvia's death and tried to kill Albert) on display.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Nancy is shown to be a dreadful singer. In real life, Alison Balsom grew to become a folk singer.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Nancy pulls many nasty tricks, but the one where she crosses the line is when she tricks Belinda into being locked up in the ice house, specifically to make her sick and shows no worry about getting her seriously ill or even dying. Worse, her actions in later episodes would never have that same level of sociopathic behaviour, so this was a standout, even for Nancy.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Melora Hardin (Belinda Stevens) is best known by contemporary audiences as Jan Levinson.
  • Values Dissonance: Today, Nancy's scheme to lock Belinda in the icehouse would have resulted in her arrest on severe charges and likely resulted in a long sentence in juvenile hall.
  • What the Hell, Costuming Department? What the Hell, Set Department:
    • Fans will recognize that Belinda Stevens (Albert's Girl of the Week) is wearing the exact same clothes as Sylvia. One wonders what the costumers were thinking when they repeated the outfit worn by one of the most tragic characters in the show on what's essentially her replacement as Albert's love interest. Speaking of that episode:
    • In a setting department variation, the blacksmith shop still shows the name of Irv Hartwig, despite this episode being set several months after his death (meaning there should be a new blacksmith by now), when it was revealed that he was a rapist, so nobody should be comfortable with his name hanging in plain sight.
