Little House On The Prairie S 7 E 14 Goodbye Mrs Wilder

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Mrs. Oleson showing a father one of the naked pictures she intends to teach at the class called "The Rape of the Sabine"? Awkward. Her pronouncing the name of the painting and the dumbfounded man, unaccostumed to nude imagery even in art, exclaiming "Jeeeehosaphat. Great screaming ghosts"? Hilarious.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: One of the awkward clashes between Mrs. Oleson's ideas for improving the school curriculum and the other townspeople's priorities is when she shows a picture of "The Rape of the Sabine Women", casually naming the painting and emphasizing the world "rape", which in the context of the incident it portrays means "abduction" rather than sexual violence. The very next episode would involve actual rape, happening to an innocent schoolgirl, and Mrs. Oleson's wrong assumptions about her making things worse.
