  • In a fan-poll, the Charles x Sam paring was the most popular ship by far. In terms of fanfiction, Charm eclipses Sam x Marshall by a couple of miles! However, in one of her Q&As the creator definitively said that fan preferences haven't changed her plans for the Official Couple even a little bit. Charles is eventually shown to have jealousy issues and becoming a little possessive of Sam due to the trauma of his ex-wife's infidelity. Sam also recognizes that her relationship with Charles is confusing for her, not knowing if he wants to keep their Friends with Benefits situation or something more.
  • A minor one has popped up for Vikki and Abe after it was revealed that Vikki introduced him to yoga, meditation, and vegetarianism after his football injury. He also was the only one who noticed that Vikki was crying after she felt Marshall's emotional pain.
• Moe: Sam. Her Delicate and Sickly and Shrinking Violet tendencies play-up an endearing vulnerability that triggers a Big Brother Instinct in even the most cold-hearted individuals. Her naivete and general empathy boarding on Princess Classic levels of innocence wins her a lot of friends that will go above and beyond to help her.
• Nightmare Fuel: Some of Marshall's dreams which allude to his own issues and insecurities can be downright terrifying, especially when his new heart from the Shopkeeper quickly turns black, and when a seemingly simple flashback abruptly has his face start crumbling and coming apart revealing nothing but emptiness underneath.
• Ship-to-Ship Combat: Fans can get quite heated when it comes to their favorite pairings, mostly who Sam should ultimately end up with. Then again nobody knows exactly how the series will end except for Mongie herself.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: A number of fans weren't pleased with how the promotional animated shorts sped through most of the plot, cutting out memorable events like Sam getting coffee spilled on her at work and Marshall's breakdown and beloved characters Angela and Vikki (or her World of Warquest guild) being oddly replaced solely by Dee, who not only isn't as close with Sam as the shorts presented, but also seemingly receives Adaptational Sexuality, which some fans have assumed to be without the consent of Mongie. She's confirmed on her Twitter however, that she always planned for Dee to be gay.
