- Adaptation Displacement: Most kids who grew up with the Disney Channel movie aren't familiar with the book.
- Awesome Music: Many, but especially Breakthrough for being the only song in which Hayley Kiyoko gets a vocal solo. (In the sense of singing; she did a rap in "Here We Go".)
- Fan-Preferred Couple:
- Charlie/Mo, in many fans' opinions, should have gotten together in the film, as they did in the book.
- Though Charlie/Stella is also popular, as is Stella/Ray and Olivia/Mo.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The jail scene, after Adam Hicks (Wen) was arrested in 2018 for a string of armed robberies.
- Heartwarming Moments: Lemonade Mouth looking up at clouds, Wen hugging Sidney when she comes to get him from jail, and the crowd singing Determinate at Rising Star when the sick band members are unable to do so, and Scott playing his guitar to help them out. (Which doubles as a Moment of Awesome.)
- "More Than A Band"...just the whole damn song. Seriously, check the lyrics for yourself:
Reach for my hand cause it's held out for you
My shoulders are strong, but you can cry on them too
Everything changes, but one thing is true, understand
We'll always be more than a band. - Heartwarming in Hindsight: Those who said that Naomi Scott should become a famous singer will be happy to know her singing chops have earned global recognition when she starred as the new-generation Jasmine in Aladdin (2019).
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Stella accidentally recruits both Mo and Scott for the band (well, puts them in positions where they'll become involved) when she's listening to the Principal's Motive Rant, and delivers a Shut Up, Hannibal! with her eyes alone which points out that the principal should be paying more attention to the school's security camera feed.
- The fact that Olivia, the least determined member of the band, wrote Determinate.
- Stella is the only one of the band not end up in a relationship or implied to end up in one by the end of the movie. Given that she is played by the now out and proud lesbian Hayley Kiyoko and Stella doesn't appear interested in any boys during the film...
- Moment of Awesome:
- "BE HEARD! BE STRONG! BE PROUD!"
- Stella taking the microphone during that song and letting her feelings be known. Hayley Kiyoko killed that rap!
- Narm Charm: Like other Disney Channel movies of its era, it can get quite cheesy at times, such as the ridiculous speed at which the band comes together and the melodramatic moments throughout the film. However, the music is catchy and there's a lot of genuine sentimentality to the film, leaving a lot of fans with nostalgia for it even in adulthood.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Naomi Scott as Mo, following breakout roles as Kim in Power Rangers (2017) and as Jasmine in the live action Aladdin.
- To a lesser extent, this premiered before Blake Michael began starring in Dog with a Blog the following year.
- Signature Song: Everyone in the film knows the song "Determinate".
- Spiritual Successor: Like many a Disney Channel Original Movie, to High School Musical.
- The Woobie: Everyone in the band has these tendencies - however, Stella leans toward Iron Woobie status.
