YMMV / LEGO Masters

Go To

  • Awesome Moments:
    • Aaron and Christian's elimination speech, when it's not a Tear Jerker. They said that being on the set of LEGO Masters and building their dream designs was worth more than any prize money. Will actually starts crying before they finish.
    • Season 2's Zach and Wayne have proven themselves to be the strongest team in the competition, thanks to several very impressive builds:
      • In Episode 1, their dragon parade float has synchronized movement to look like an actual dragon, rippling through the air with no technical complications whatsoever. As Amy aptly put it, the designers Zach and Wayne knew how to make a good first impression.
      • In Episode 4, the Fashion Show. Their build (a Robin Hood hat and mask design) was the only one that did not require the use of their hands for support on their head, something everyone else had to do while walking down the runway. Not only was their build impressive, but they walked onto the runway with such confidence that the judges weren't even sure if they had to start the 5 seconds with no hands timer. This allowed them to get into second place.
      • Episode 5, One Floating Brick, had them make a gigantic build of a sperm whale and a giant squid fighting each other. The build was incredibly big (over 5 feet long), and the judges reminded the audience that all of it was structured around a single brick hanging from a wire. In particular, Jamie noted that it was one of the biggest floating builds he had ever seen built in less than 10 hours.
      • Episode 11, Cliffhanger!, they made a 6 feet long castle build that was supported by only four of the ten 1x2 bricks they had. While this did knock them down a place, as the 1x2 bricks weren't covered up and stuck out like a sore thumb against their build, they automatically advanced to the finale due to how long it was.
    • Season 2, Episode 7 had Dave and Richard's wind build in which they made a flower meadow with a windmill. What made the build impressive is the use of sound with the build. In which the LEG Os would make windchime like sounds. Both Jamie and Amy mentioned earlier that due to the giant fan blowing 60 MPH might not pick up the sounds over the noise of the fan, however they admit that they were wrong as everyone could hear the windchime noise over the giant fan. This build allowed them to get into first place.
    • In the puppet show episode, Natalie and Michelle's puppet loses an arm. Without breaking their stride, they quickly get the arm back on and continue performing. It helped they sang an actually really good song. The judges note that while they ended up in the bottom two for "structural issues", it was quick thinking.
    • Christopher & Robert in Season 4 had some extremely impressive builds that even shocked the Judges, both who have worked with the company for years.
      • Episode 6, they created a life size replica of an office chair in only 10 hours.
      • Episode 8 of the "Lego 2K Drive" episode. They created a blue shark car using a limited number of bricks. Not only was their build visually impressive, but they won the race and their creation is now an official vehicle in the game.
      • Episode 9 of the "Roller Coaster Madness" episode. They created a roller coaster that did a spiral lift that even Jamie, who works in the Lego Creator Expert and Lego Architecture lines, couldn't even design correctly. Jamie told them early on about his issues with their build, which Christopher & Robert took as a challenge.
      • Episode 11, they create an absolutely massive airplane representing each of their travels. This ultimately causes them to win the title of LEGO Masters.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Season 2, Brothers Zach and Wayne share a Bear Hug when their explosive build goes off without a hitch.
    • Season 2 when Zach and Tim are eliminated. Both are so happy that they got to spend time with each other and Tim telling him that he is proud of how much his son has grown. It makes everyone, including the host and judges, start crying at how heartwarming it is.
    • Season 2 when Moto is worried about their fashion hat build. Paras flashes him a reassuring smile.
    • In the same episode, Moto and Para's hat collapses on the runway. Everyone looks more worried for them than about their own builds, including their fellow competitors. When Para returns backstage with the remains of the hat, he and Moto receive a full round of applause. As Amy puts it while apologetically eliminating them, they took a big risk and when it didn't pay off, they held their heads high and with dignity. Being classy during failure means that it's not truly a failure. Para goes Graceful Loser and says there is no shame in trying to experiment with LEGO.
    • In the puppet show episode, Will breaks from his Small Name, Big Ego character to give Caleb and Jacob a pep talk. He says that if they don't feel confident, commit to the role instead, to put their all in and try their hardest. Will emphasizes he's not saying it as show host, but as an experienced performer.
      • Will again does this with Caleb and Jacob in Episode 10. When they confess to Will that their build isn't going well due to the mechanics and having to use red snakes (in a ski resort, using a lot of neutral colors), even saying it is the worst build they ever have done on the show. Will gives them another pep talk, saying that being this far is amazing and while you can't change what you have, just make the most of what you have and commit all the way.
    • The finale has the last team members families show up. Season 1 and 3 had the families physically on set while Season 2 had it via video chat. It is heartwarming to hear as most of the teams have not seen their family in weeks and are happy to be able to talk with him.
      • Zach's daughter is revealed to be a huge Moe. She opens the call by saying, "HI, DADDY!" with the whole family saying they miss him and Wayne.
    • Also in the finale, Zach refers to Wayne as his "Golden Brick." Even though they get second place, they say they wouldn't trade the experience for the world.
  • Even Better Sequel: Season 2 of the American version, primarily for featuring a lot more diverse and well-thought-out challenges, as well as how more than two teams consistently won individual legs.
  • Never Live It Down: Stephen and Stephen had a phenomenal run on Season 3, but they will always be remembered for crashing into a table trying to grab a Dalmatian dog collar.
  • The Scrappy: Season 3 introduced Ethan and Dom, TikTokers who came into the season at the end of episode 3. Many fans felt they were unfairly given special privilege and treatment as they were able to skip the builds and elimination. Fans felt that one of the earlier builders who were eliminated should have returned.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The Golden Brick in the American version, for several reasons:
    • Of its first six uses, three were when the team using it wasn't in danger of elimination, with one team even winning after using it.note
    • Another aspect of the Golden Brick that is disliked is that the Golden Brick can be hoarded and does not become available unless it is played by a team. Because there is no real way to try to "force" a team to play the Golden Brick, if players do not get the Golden Brick then they almost never get a chance to earn it again - since most teams feel confident enough to not play it. (See above) While there was always a rule that it would be lost if the team holding it lands in the bottom two, this didn't happen until season 4.
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike:
    • Season 2 of the American edition was much much more difficult than the first challenge. This was primarily because it required more complex tasks such as making puppets that have to move or hats that can stay on human heads in motion.
    • Invoked in season 3 of the American edition, wherein Will mentions that it will be the hardest LEGO Masters season yet.
  • Shocking Elimination: Amy was visibly saddened to see Amie and Krystal go when she announced their elimination.
    • In the Season 2 finale, many viewers were shocked that Caleb and Jacob only got third place, since their build was considered one of the best in the finale, along with Zach and Wayne's build being considered by many to be sub-par build (for them, at least).
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • A more literal example - on occasion the builds don't work right. This has cost a few teams.
    • Season 4 had a large eruption that is obviously CGI. It looks so hilariously out of place.
  • Tear Jerker: Moto and Paras start crying on the confession cam when their LEGO fashion hat falls apart on the runway, despite a strong effort to rebuild it. Everyone feels bad for them, including the judges.
  • Ugly Cute: Some of the Mix-and-Match Critters in Season 2's ninth episode fall into this. Special mention goes to the Chameleobster hybrid, which is shown with babies during its Stop Motion interlude.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The parade in Season 2, when it features quite a beautiful Art Shift and sound effects. You see flashing photography and cheers as the floats move along the track.
