YMMV / Legends of Dune

  • Fanon Discontinuity: Some fans do not consider this series as canonical, either preferring the interpretation of the Dune Encyclopedia which follows more closely what's implied in the original series; or not accepting anything at all not written by Frank Herbert. Particular criticisms point to the apparent contradiction between how this series depicts the Butlerian Jihad and how Leto II describes it in God-Emperor of Dune:
"The target of the Jihad was a machine-attitude as much as the machines. Humans had set those machines to usurp our sense of beauty, our necessary selfdom out of which we make living judgments. Naturally, the machines were destroyed."
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Erasmus' failed attempts to create art are rather prescient about the rise of AI art in the 2020's.
