• Critical Dissonance: In France, the film got mixed reviews upon release (and especially harsh reviews from critics circles that arose with the French New Wave), but got consistent praise from viewers, and it was a big box office success upon release. The film also triumphed at the 1976 Césard Awards, being nominated in nine categories and winning three (Best Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Soundtrack).
