YMMV / Le Nom Des Gens

  • Genius Bonus: The movie is a lot funnier if you have an understanding of French politics.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Bahia berating Arthur for advising caution during a possible bird flu outbreak ("You people make everyone fascist!") is an Establishing Character Moment for her, as it demonstrates her willingness to disregard facts if they don't line up with her personal feelings on an issue. But the whole thing seems a lot less funny after the COVID-19 pandemic, when it became very clear just how many deaths could result from a lack of such precautions.
  • Signature Scene: The scene where Bahia accidentally boards the Metro while naked was singled out by many reviewers as a key moment, particularly since Sara Forestier manages to turn a scenario that could easily seem far-fetched and ridiculous into something believable.
    • In fact, the sequence had been cut in early drafts of the film, as many of the actresses who auditioned for the role of Bahia expressed concerns at the amount of nudity involved. When she heard about it after landing the part, Forestier specifically requested that the scene be put back in, as she felt that it was integral to the spirit of the character, and didn't want to pass up the opportunity to do a nude scene in a comedic context. Her premonition seems to have been correct as she won the French equivalent of the best actress Oscar for her performance.
